Two friends and I ate at Baba Dhaba Restaurant on Queen Street in Brampton last night. I have been eating out at least once a week in Indian restaurants in the GTA for the past several years. The place has a modern vibe and was very clean, washroom included. :-) The manager, Pankaj, was friendly and hospitable and forthcoming with regard to information about the restaurant and the food. He even suggested a dish that was not on the menu. Seating was comfortable with choice of booth or table. We would have liked the restaurant to have had a little more light near our table but otherwise all was good. We ordered a mushroom and salad dish to begin. It was delicious. The salad dressing was great! We wished for more of this one! Then we had tandoori chicken salad, chicken tikka masala, curried goat, Khadai paneer, zeera rice, whole wheat roti, and naan, followed by kheer for dessert (compliments of Pankaj. He also took the time to explain some of the décor. Thanks!) To say we enjoyed everything would be an understatement. Personally, I was bowled over by the fact that every dish was superb. The meat dishes were tender and the sauces were tantalizingly flavourful. We found the spice levels to be very moderate and nothing tasted "over seasoned". I have never been a fan of goat but loved it here! The mushrooms were genuinely outstanding - they were large, well cooked and enhanced by the added flavours the chef had creatively included. I have tried kheer in many restaurants but have usually been disappointed because it has either been lacking in flavour or too soupy, or both. This kheer was thick and bursting with flavour. Top marks on this dish! Truly a great surprise ending! We would have liked to have ended with a great masala chai but they don't have this...yet? Hint! Hint! :-) Suffice it to say, we WILL be back...and soon!
