Mr. Gao Restaurant 高老庄

The food was good. The skewers were taste wise excellent but also the smallest I have seen . Had the chicken and beef. And hcas the clay pot noodles. The quantity of the clay pot was good for 2 of us.

I really like their skewers! Food comes out quick and good service too. The food is pretty tasty, and the servings are decently sized. we got the lamb skewers(they come in pairs, so kinda expensive) egg fried rice, stir fry veggies (came with rice we didn’t know), dumplings, and a beef noodle dish. So much food!!

Great taste and selection of food, but portions are much smaller than what you might expect so be aware of that when ordering. We did takeout for 10 ppl, ordered 6 dishes and we ended up with not quite enough food. I would visit again as they have some unique items such as the Fried Golden Pumpkin and the fish dishes. However, won't be my go-to for regular weeknight takeout with places like China Impression and others so close by with good quantity and quality. Order 1 dish pp, or even two for bigger appetites. Tasty food, decent service. Lamb skewers were so perfect!

Overall great fresh food and liked the smokey flavor on the BBQ and other dishes. We can usually tell if food is not made fresh but they did a good job. Lemon water had a nice lemon flavor unlike other places that serve water with lemon. Good for families. Accepts US credit cards unlike other nearby restaurants that take only Canadian cash and debit cards. I liked the self-order form that you fill out as well which we gave to the waitress after choosing from menu. Staff friendly, nice spacious interior, clean bathrooms, accommodated our request for no msg. However, white rice is not included and must be ordered separately for additional cost. Also, the check came back with 10% tip already factored in which was a bit odd, but waiter had noted which made it better. I would've tipped 20% had the tip not been applied, so we left it at 10%.

This is a long overdue review. We were a group of 20 people who had two fantastic dinner parties at Mr. Gao and were amazed by the quality and the arts of the cuisine. Very classy Chinese dishes with clean taste and abundant flavor. Good variety from seafood to skewers and dumplings, at affordable price. Definitely will come back for event celebrations or family gathering.
