This place is untouchable, if you want a culinary experience this is the place.... don’t expect big portions, you can get that anywhere, the food and service quality here is top in Canada.

I had the pleasure of dining here with my partner. The restaurant is small, with only a few tables and the bar seating 6. If I had to guess, the whole restaurant probably seats 20 at most. I originally reserved a table, but on the wrong day. However, the they were more than willing to change my reservation but had to sit us at the bar. This wasn't an issue, as it was comfy and we had a view of the kitchen.

Service was among the best I've received and every detail was meticulously looked after. Unlike other fine dining restaurants I have visited (I also used to work in one), the atmosphere was not pretentious in the slightest. The servers were young but professional, which was a welcome surprise. Everyone who served our dishes were knowledgable about them and we were well taken care of.

I have spent nearly a decade of my life working in the restaurant industry and although I'm sure the chef knows much more about food than I do, it doesn't change the fact that I did not enjoy a few dishes at all. Don't get me wrong, the food was generally good. But, some flavour combinations were a miss for me. My biggest sticking point was a missing balance of flavours and felt that some of the courses could have benefited from a touch of acidity, more seasoning, sweetness or spiciness. That being said, a few dishes were perfect and/or excited the palette (e.g. Bitter Boar, Brisk Afternoon Walk).

Taste is a very subjective thing and I'm sure other people would greatly enjoy the dishes I did not. But at these price points, I was expecting to be completely blown away and unfortunately, I was not. If anything though, the executive chef/owner is very down to earth, willing to listen to customer critiques, and easy to talk to.

    Excellent!
Not only were all the items from the tasting menu delicious, but they were also fresh and interesting - not the same old as you'd find in most restaurants. High cooking talent here. High marks - and highly recommend Frilu as your next place to dine!

Loved everything about the meal. All dishes were lovingly prepared. It's clear that the chefs put a lot of thought into every dish. Great job!

Food was interesting, delicious and paired perfectly with the curated wine/saki menu. A true experience. Staff was lovely and really brought the whole experience together.
