We were strolling down Wasaga Beach with vacation bliss, friendship, but sadly, empty stomachs. So when I spotted a fish and chips spot, my spirits rose, and we made a beeline for Suzie Q's.

Suzie Q's is a fry shack with a simple, yet appealing menu of staples. Stop by for fries, poutine, pulled pork, fish and chips, pogos, or deep fried dill pickles. Seating is entirely outdoor on benches and picnic tables, but note that there is no overhead coverage, so I'd pick somewhere else if the weather isn't agreable. That being said, when the weather is right, it's a prime location for some timely, savoury beach eating, plus there's a restaurant right next to it that serves cold drinks and other tasty treats.

As I mentioned, I ordered the fish and chips for $10.99, and a friend bought a poutine as well for $6.99.
Before diving into the fish and chips, I've got to air a gripe. The fish and chips is advertised as being served with coleslaw and tartar sauce, (which are fish and chip standards), yet after I had ordered AND paid for my meal, I noticed no coleslaw along with my order. When I brought this up with the sever, he finally divulged that they were out of coleslaw, and for some reason offered me more tartar sauce as a replacement. This is like buying a burger with fries, getting no fries, but being offered more ketchup. What am I supposed to do with this?! Anyway, we had him give us more curds and gravy instead for our poutine and moved on.

So how was the fish and chips? My friends enjoyed their dishes plenty, but I found that it was overly breaded, and under salted. The tartar sauce though was pretty good. The dish wasn't bad overall, but I have certainly had better fish and chips.

Luckily, the poutine hit the spot. It was simple, and didn't stray from the standards. We all enjoyed it.

I hesitate to give a final conclusion about Suzie Q's, because maybe the fish and chips were just sub-par due to the server/chef who prepared them. Instead I will just say this: the food isn't bad, the location is great, and you're at the beach anyway, so you'll be sufficiently happy regardless. Go and have a good time friend.
