I personally don't like Cora's because of how sugary the food is the meats like bacon and sausage don't taste very good but their omelets and fruits are fine

Good food. Friendly service. A line and lengthy wait to get in though. And lengthy periods in between seeing the server. Breakfast for 3 adults was $68.00.

I worked my last shift as a server at Coras today. As I prepare to close this door, I want to leave you with my official response to the mass of negative reviews you will find about the restaurant industry online.

I know what you see when you come in on a Sunday morning. There is a lineup out the door. You have been waiting for 20 minutes to be seated. You look around at the open concept room and see dirty, empty tables and wonder why we are wasting your time. You wait again to see your server, to place a drink order, and again to get your food. It is annoying and frustrating to wait and we truly understand that. When we arrive at your table we may appear rushed or frazzled. We occasionally miss something or make mistakes. And when all of these things happen in combination it is enough to ruin your dining experience.

What you may not know is that on a busy weekend, 5 servers look after 500 people. With a section of 6 tables, at any given moment we have 20-30 customers that have been waiting in a long line and are eager to order. Those empty tables you saw when you got to the front of the line may have been unassigned because it is 9:00 am and two servers are scheduled to start later. The dirty eight-seater table may not be the one we are preparing for your two person party because if we sat tables that way, you would be waiting even longer in that line.

When we ask for your drink order and you begin rhyming off your food order, we may ask you to pause - this is because the table beside you got here first and if they see your food come out first because you wanted to order right away, that can create frustration. When you ask us for more water as we walk by, there is a good chance on that same lap, 5 other people have asked for various things as well. Someone is ready to pay. Someone else changed their mind and doesn’t want bacon. The little girl in the booster seat just peed and we need a mop. A new table of 6 just got sat. Being a server taught me everything I know about efficiency and if you are feeling under the weather it makes this required brain power so much more difficult to muster.

When something does go wrong, please know that we are as upset as you are. We don’t like to make mistakes, but we are human and it happens sometimes. Please let us fix this by allowing us to correct your plate and accepting our apology. Waiting until the end of the meal to express your resentment by giving us a dirty look and not leaving a tip on the group bill that you offered to pay breeds bitterness on both ends.

You may see the waitstaff having a laugh together as we prepare your drinks. What you may not see is your server is 7 months pregnant, working an 8 hour shift without a pause and preparing to head to her next job. You may catch a glimpse of a server giving a host grief about the way they have rotated through sections. What you don’t see is that same server taking money out of their personal tips at the end of the day and offering it to that host in gratitude for their hard work. You may see a server at 2:30 pm who is stumbling awkwardly over their words and apologizing for sounding silly. What you don’t see is the range of human emotion they have been required to display during this shift before you arrived.

Because restaurants are a place of gathering; a place where people celebrate milestones and reunite with loved ones, but also a place where people mourn loss and share difficult news. Sometimes we are watching on the sidelines but oftentimes we are actively involved. Taking that photo for you, bringing over tissues for your tears, offering to pay for your tea because we can see how difficult this day has been for you.

I can tell you that after a year of working in healthcare, these two settings are not that different. We are here because we want to be here. We are here to support you in whatever way we can. Your patience, kindness, and understanding go such a long way here and in return we promise you the same...plus a delicious meal. And in my professional opinion, food fixes 99% of problems.
