let me start by saying that I was raised on steamed hot dogs and french fries from "Chez Ma Tante" rest in Ahuntsic. To me these were the best in Quebec. Never found another one like it until I went to Frites et Basilic this week. I tried a toasted hot dog and 1 frite. The first thing I noticed was the hot dog sausage they were using (shopsy's), the second was the chou. Both were identical to Ma Tante. So I went back last thursday with a friend to try the steamed hot dogs, as I was sure they would be the same as Ma Tante's. And they were. The fries were even better. I talked to the owner about Ma Tante and he too was raised on their hot dogs. He said the difference is the Shopsey's sausage. Nobody has it as it is twice the price of the others. So no more travelling, once a week, to Ma Tante's. That being said I will have to travel there as Frites and Basilic is closing tomorrow Sunday Oct 22 for the winter. Re opening early April 2018. So until then back to Ma Tante's.
