Great restaurant, awesome atmosphere, and really good food. If you’re looking for a place to eat that is a little classier than the standard seafood joint this is it. The outside, upstairs seating is really nice. To top it all off, they take reservations! If you’re reading this and you’re the owner or manager of Playa, thank you sincerely for taking reservations. It’s so nice not to have to wait 60-90 minutes for 4 people to eat like all the other seafood restaurants in OB.
Really not expecting to enjoy the Playa Restaurant but the outdoor seating with a stunning view of the bay was wonderful. The food was really tasty... the "Shrimp and Grits" was super tasty (the secret ingredient was ... ). The Cheese Curds... the closes to Wisconsin Curds we've had in the South so far. The Playa Burger was dynamite, cooked exactly how I requested (charred and rare as possible- personal preference), that first juicy bite had the taste of the meat, the crunch of the crispy onion ring and the sweet taste of the grilled pineapple.... just a mouth watering burger. Our waitress Val was friendly knowledgeable and extremely welcoming which made the experience much more relaxing and fun. We will most definitely be back.
Note - they took reservations
We went here for supper because they took reservations and I'm glad we did. The décor was fresh, bright and very pleasing. The view was beautiful and looks out over the water. They had outside dining for those looking for it. We had drinks at the bar before being seated and the bartender took care of us quickly. While the menu may be limited in size what they served was excellent. We had conch fritters, Mexican sweet corn, and the tuna dip for our appetizers which I recommend. The fritters were so good we ordered another round. Our main course was again excellent and we were very pleased. You won't be disappointed in going there. Because of limited staffing the restaurant was not jamb packed with people and made for a pleasant evening. Wait staff was very attentive and nice. We plan to eat there again this week if possible.
I would give 10 stars if I could! The young lady at the host station was friendly, helpful and courteous. Our server, Louis, was the same plus funny. He made sure to remember my husband's name so he could sing Happy Birthday at dessert. I had the coconut rum cake which was outstanding. Dinners were crab cakes and shrimp n grits. Both were delicious. Even my decaf coffee was great! That doesn't often happen. We were visiting from the Tampa area but if we lived here, Playa would be a frequent stop for us!
