Farm Stores Dothan/Mike Schmitz Markets

Saw an ad for this place on Facebook and we’re excited to try this place when we were running errands in the area. Love milkshakes and empanadas. We accidentally drove by the entrance. All of the flags at the corner but the entrance is down the side road and easy to miss. They should move some flags down there. We had planned to go inside but evidently it is drive thru only. Lady came out to tell us drive thru only once we’d already parked & that we couldn’t go inside. Health dept had issue with them using meat slicers so exposed to the public area so had to close off inside. So we got a menu (odd though because there were no pricing on the ones hanging up or the paper menu they gave us) and then drove back thru the parking lot to order at the drive thru door. The flow of ordering/pickup was not really spelled out. Odd that you can’t go in because it appeared that had ALOT of convenience food items, etc inside but not sure how you’d know - guess you’d have to use the app. We tried a bit of everything to get a feel for things: tequenos, beef empanadas, strawberry shake, bbq pork sandwich, broccoli cheese soup, lemonade. $27 for everything. The crust/dough used for the empanadas & tequenos was great - flaky and thin. And the lemonade was good although it did not have the usual texture of fresh squeezed. That was probably the best of what we had I hate to say. The food was just really bland - nothing special. Doubtful we would make the drive by there again to try it another time.

Neat store, cool concept. Needs a way to show everything they have. The app doesn't show everything, and having to ask every time sucks. I will say, as clever as this is...it really misses out on the power of the impulse buy. A lot of times I remember to get an item I want because I see it.

Friendly staff, very clean, and great selection for everyday convenience needs. I was surprised at all they carried. They'll also have an app out soon to order before you drive up. Great addition to the Highlands neighborhood area.
