The place has less than 10 tables. We walked in and had to guess that we seat ourselves. Menu's we got ourselves when we saw another customer get them off out of a holder on the wall. My food came on a piece of paper on a cafeteria tray. Food was good and the bartender was nice. I would say this is a bar with food not a restaurant or place to go have a sit down meal.
Super-casual place right out of New Orleans. It’s so small that we accidentally entered thru the kitchen. I can’t say enough good things about this little spot. If you’re a foodie, or just want a cool, casual place to hang out and have something to eat or drink, come to this little neighborhood favorite! Can’t wait to go again!
Oh my gosh!! Perfection in casual dining with something like 40 beers to choose from. A cross between a sports bar and New Orleans themed cafe. I have reviewed many restaurants, and this is probably the best review I've ever given one. There's a reason for that. Total dressed-down comfort with Heavenly Cajun classic food. I would go there every day if I could.
I liked the surf and turf po'boy (I think that's what it was called). It had one half roast beef and the other half fried shrimp. I liked the bread. It was authentic New Orleans style bread. We also had the gumbo which was okay. It had okra which some people don't like in their gumbo, but I do. I also tried the bread pudding. It didn't have a lot of flavor and it was kind of dry. Service was good. They made sure we had everything we needed. I'd recommend you give this place a try. It's good if you want a taste of New Orleans while you're in Birmingham.
First time eating here! I highly recommend The Rougaroux! Atmosphere perfect! Staff were enthusiastic, helpful, and fun! I had the surf and turf and it was phenomenal and loaded with shrimp! Going back after 5pm today with friends for bread pudding and beer!!
