TL:DR This is the best Mexican food around!

I love Mexican food. I love food in general, and I am picky about it. Before finding Villalongin, I couldn't find a local Mexican restaurant I was content with. I decided to try them on a whim, and I was absolutely blown away!

With most Mexican restaurants I try, something is just not quite right. I often take about 5 bites, and I'm done (and it's not because I filled up on chips and salsa). At Villalongin, the food tastes real, and fresh. It is not so greasy and heavy that you lose your appetite (unless you cover everything in queso, at which point, what did you expect?). I have to point out the subtleties and detail that they put in their food, and a couple great examples are their Tamales and their Chicken Fajitas.

First, the Tamale. Most places I go to, the balance is wrong. Either there is so much sauce, that you can't taste anything else, or the breading is so thick and overwhelming that it is dry and/or your can't taste the pork. I found their tamales to have a perfect balance of sauce, breading, and pork, without even having to order the sauce on the side. You could taste the distinct flavor of the corn husk, the umami of the pork, and neither was overpowered by the sauce. I am picky about my tamales, and they won me over.

Second, and definitely not least, is my favorite item on the menu: The Chicken Fajita. Before we get into the meat and vegetables, I have to say that their guacamole is delicious! You can definitely taste that it is hand-made and fresh. But I think my favorite part about their fajitas is that rather than only using green bell peppers, onions, and at some restaurants tomatoes, they skip the tomatoes and use yellow, orange, and red bell peppers in addition to the green. This creates a lively melody of flavor, that can change with every bite. Their peppers are cooked to perfection: not too crispy, but not so flimsy that there is nothing to bite. And the onions have a wonderful caramelization. And most importantly, the chicken tastes fresh and light.

Finally, I have to comment on the service. They have been fantastic every time I've been there. I should have written this review ages ago, but here are a couple examples.

My sister and I had a very short meal window before an important meeting, but we needed to celebrate with a nice meal for personal reasons. So we decided to call the restaurant and ask if we could order ahead and have it prepared for use by the time we got there in about 15 minutes. They said "No problem!". We get there, sit down, and after we ordered our drinks, our food was delivered hot and fresh, and not only did we have time to eat, we had time to chill and relax a bit before the meeting we had to be at.

And the second example just happened today, and is what prompted this review. My family was celebrating the memory of my Father's death, and decided to go here for lunch because my father loved Mexican food. Half of my family hadn't tried it, and all of them know I love this restaurant. However, because of work, I ran thirty minutes late. My family had already ordered my fajita, and it was there at the table when I arrived. The fajita was still pretty warm, and one of the servers noticed I had arrived and very kindly offered to warm it up for me so it was fresh and hot. She went out of her way to notice that she could go the extra mile, and that once again reaffirmed why I love this restaurant so much.

I've said it multiple times in this review, and I will say it again: Villalongin is the best Mexican restaurant in the Huntsville/Madison area!

Nice place. The chips and salsa are good. The staff if friendly and helpful. This is an average sized restaurant with good food. I'm not the most experienced with Mexican, so please take with a grain of salt.

Not really a place you get excited about. Food is okay, staff is friendly and the prices are decent, but there isn't any wow factor that makes you think "I want to go there." I'm sure I'll return and the experience will be good, but it won't be memorable or anything worth writing home about when I do finally come back.

Not a fancy place but the food is delicious! Best Mexican food I had in a long time. Inexpensive! Friendly service!

Was there trying to wait out some rain. Was riding my motorcycle. Went to bar and had a grilled chicken soft taco. Very good and everyone was very nice. Would go again.
