The sweet potato casserole is fantastic! I found the beef brisket bland. Didn't taste like there was any seasoning on it and it was a little dry. I just covered it with barbecue sauce. I do recommend this restaurant. It has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere and the servers are always very nice and helpful.
There have been several changes in ownership at this location in the the past, and we are so happy with the current owners because they have finally gotten it right! We love this location of Golden Rule. They have our favorite ribs. Their blue plates are offered at lunch and dinner and the food tastes like delicious and comforting home cooking. My husband and I eat there several times a month.
The service is always good but the food is hit or miss. It seems to depend on who cooks what. I mostly get the blue plate specials. This time I had chicken and stuffing with gravy perfect ???? Homemade Thanksgiving. They skimp you on the canned jellied cranberry sauce but I just ask for more. For sides I had fried green tomatoes and peach cobbler. The tomatoes were coated perfectly but I think they needed to change the oil out for the tomatoes or maybe they had just cooked some onion rings b/c they had a slight flavor to them. Something went wrong with the crust on the cobbler maybe too much shortning. It was on the gelatinous side. But for the price and amount of food the sides are irrelevant in this case. Worth a go...can't beat the price.
Never experienced more genuine, friendly, and passionate service... Hannah and the team truly enjoy what they do. We went yesterday (Friday about 6:30) and it was steady but not a long wait for food. The food was great. Wife had small pulled pork salad which was huge. I had the fried catfish. The complimentary corn biscuits were great. Looking forward to trying the BBQ next time.
Everyone has their favorite sauce or rub and while I do enjoy all barbecues it's the sides that make the meal. The meat is tasty but all the fixings are just down right delicious. When my 25 lb 18 month old eats black eyed peas like a found Antarctican explorer lost for 4 weeks without a meal, You know you got a good thing going. The service was absolutely friendly with both kiddos, me and the wife contributing to the landfill under our table. Visibly supportive of the community too. You should support this place as well.
