“What could be wrong about a long established bakery that offers specialty coffee, sandwiches and the most amazing selection freshly baked breads? Their selection changes from day to day but there are a few staple varieties offered all the time. Be warned, they let you taste whatever you want and they don’t skimp with their samples. I love the Honey Wheat. It works for sandwiches or French Toast, but for me it is best toasted with butter. One item I can’t pass up if it is available is their Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread. I share with my family, begrudgingly. You should also try their house granola blend, great with yogurt and berries!”

“Where to start? If you come to Anchorage and don’t find your way to the Moose’s Tooth (or their sister location, the Bear Tooth) you have done your travel planning all wrong. The place is an experience, the pizza unique and delicious, the beer is some of the best brewed in Alaska. Their brand swag is worn proudly by locals...which says a lot. Of course, a popular place like this requires a wait (no reservations). We always get drinks and play charades. The Backpacker’s Pizza is one of our favorites but there is no bad choice. Their home brew root beer and cream soda are worth the calories as is the Hungarian Mushroom Soup (and I don’t even really like mushrooms). The beer selection is wide and it is worth noting that many competing restaurants carry their brews. If you are having a special event, they have a side room that they rent at certain days/times during the week. In addition to fantastic food they host First Tap Thursday’s and many concerts during the year...so be sure to check their website. They are also a great spot for to-go orders as they have designated parking and registers for those picking up. The staff is a mix of familiar faces who have been there forever and teens and college students who have always been welcomed as employees. Everyone is friendly and they have creative combo suggestions, so make sure to ask! If you want the experience but not the wait, I’ve found that between 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. the crowd thins a bit and tables turn over quickly.”

I've come multiple times and they are really great with big groups. Very attentive and always treat us with dessert tempura oreos at the end :) I love the atmosphere, very modern and intimate. “Excellent experience all around! Exceptional service, incredible food and a beautiful atmosphere all contributed to an night!!! Note that many rolls come with spicy tuna, however we asked for substitutions and they we accommodating. My husband loved Hawaii #3 (substituted tuna for crabmeat) which had mango and the Nevada roll was also very tasty!!! For dessert, I would HIGHLY recommend the tempura ice cream! They use green tea ice cream and add a bunch of whipped cream; it was to die for!”

“Another Spenard go to, the Roadhouse is always great fun and the food is delicious. Their menu is varied and offers many choices. While restaurants are closed for table service during this health crisis, if they are open for pick up or delivery I’d suggest giving them a try. They have perfected the Tater Tot, so make sure to include some in your order. Personally, I love their salads. They are massive and the dressings are ridiculously tasty. I also really enjoy their spritzers. See my pictures...they are as refreshing as they look. Derick S. helped us during our last visit and he was great, we were in a rush and he managed to make us feel relaxed quickly!”

Ive both sat on the phone letting it ring or stood at the counter for 5min and more waiting for service. “This is a nice little Joint inside the Marriott Residence Hotel. It is to the right just after you walk in the door and has an open seating area it will accommodate 20 to 30 people. There is a small bar where you can order your drinks and food items as well as some bottled waters and juices and such. The bar is only open in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for dinner and is closed during the middle of the day. They do have some construction going on on the right side of the bistro so you may be a little inconvenienced by this. The atmosphere is nice though and is appropriate for its location Inside the Hotel.”

“Great place for healthy eaters. Very Vegan friendly. There was a pretty chill and rustic feel to it. Water and basic coffee is self-serve and so is putting your own plated away. Very different feel but again not a negative for me. I had a lamb burger which was ok, but the savory flavor I would expect from lamb was not there. It was lost in all the spices that were put in it. However, the tomato bisque and the salsa for the chips were amazing. It is not a place for everyone, but it is for everyone. Vegan lover, Meat eaters, and the balanced nutrionist will all enjoy time here with a variety of menu items for a variety of taste buds.”

“Hearth is a great place for delicious salads and pizzas. Their wood fired crust is perfect. The atmosphere is fun and they never make you feel rushed. Shelby, our fantastic server, was extremely attentive but everyone checks in on you to make sure all is good (and it always is). The beet pizza is our favorite though they are all worth a try. Lots of unique beers on tap and a varied wine list as well. The Spenard spirit is strong here!”
