Tempe Black Bear Diner

This place was fantastic. You will not leave hungry. The Chicken Fried steak was the best I ever had. My wife had the Pot roast and it was so tender. Can't wait to go back again.

Good service, huge portions, decent food. Good Vegetarian and Vegan options. The scrambles were pretty good. Not a lot of flavor, though. Waffle was ok. Kitschy bear decor and theme. A good place if you are very hungry and want a lot of food, but not on the level of Snooze.

To avoid the wait we decided to sit at the bar and got to see and hear all the action of the orders. Chris (manager) was very entertaining and great with his employees. Our server Collette is awesome and very courteous.

Good variety of breakfast and lunch food options. Can buy small pies in various flavors upon paying on the way out. Booths and tables, high chairs and boosters available. Nice wait staff and free coffee refills. Cute gift shop of bear theme memorabilia.

Black Bear Diner is pretty good. I've been there for breakfast (country fried steak) and dinner (fish fry) and I plan to go back many more times. Their Friday fish fry (pollack) was remarkably good, maybe the best I've had in a while, I hope their usual cod is as good. Chicken fried steak was good too. Just not thrilled with their coffee (it's not bad, just not 5 stars great). Black Bear Diner is a pretty solid choice when you just want a decent "comfort food" meal.
