This is a beautiful drive out to Canyon Lake then on to the small town of Tortilla Flat. Plan lake time or a hike. Tour the lake ( check out the website for days/times/reservations) on the boat. Eat at the restaurant at Tortilla and get some delicious ice cream for dessert. The gift shop has some cool items including unique books. There are some nice photo ops as well.
Old stagecoach stop, now mostly tourist destination. Foods good, only beer and wine, though. The outside patio is where the real fun is. Unfortunately, it was closed when were were there mid April. ☹. If you're going for the scenic ride on your motorcycle, do yourself a favor and continue past the town. The road is paved for another 4-5 miles, the speed limit is 45mph for a stretch.
Going to the Tortilla Flat restaurant is definitely worth the drive! Going during the week is nice because there isn't a huge crowd. The breakfast plates are huge! The restaurant is clean and staff is very attentive! And the prices are reasonable. If your looking for a good meal, with a very scenic drive to go along with it...visit this restaurant in Tortilla Flat!
Funky little place, historic in that is is where the 20 mule team from Roosevelt Dam stopped going to and from Phoenix for supplies while the dam was being built. Now it's a great place to stop for lunch and a prickly pear ice cream driving the Old Apache Trail, day trip, from Phoenix past the Roosevelt Dam with a stop at the Tonto National Monument through Miami/Globe then back to Phoenix. One of my favorite day trips
Love tortilla flats especially with the recent rainfall filling the reservoirs and creeks creating some beautiful waterfalls and scenery. The waterfall I found was just over the washed out road just may be a quarter mile north of the main restaurant and gift shop strip. This spring time of year the parking lot was absolutely jam packed with cars motorcycles.
