Want some good ole soul food? Just off 65 highway in a little run down looking shack with historical memorabilia inside. Fresh cookings for a reasonable price and awesome service!!! Today's offerings were fried catfish, hushpuppies, potato salad, okra, beans, corn, fried chicken, spaghetti, cornbread, & pecan pie! Yummy! Cash only so plan accordingly.
Heard about Rhoda years back but never made it. Finally did a few days ago and was not disappointed. Neither of us have been a huge fan of tamales so maybe that’s why we always hesitated but glad we finally tried them. These were moist and very flavorful! Others I’ve had are dry and too much masa to filling. I’d definitely go back.
My apologies to the worker there when I mentioned I wasn’t a big fan of tamales. Her jaw dropped and knees buckled. Thought her spirit left her body for a minute. 😳 I’m now a fan……at least of Rhoda’s.
Oh, and the pies. Pecan and sweet potato. Delicious!
Definitely a hidden gem in Lake Village. I always look for soul food spots wherever I go, and was so surprised to find one here. Thanks Google 😉. The spot has been there for about 40 years, and still kicking. It was like going to your grandma’s kitchen. We were greeted by 2 Nice ladies in the front. They have more than hot tamales, and this was my first time having those. There’s a small buffet set up for the lunch options. And they have a menu for you to order other items. I wish they stayed open past 2. Prices are very reasonable. And yes I put hot sauce on everything. 😏
This place is a must stop. We came just for tamales but Dorothy was putting out other food as well. We got tamales, smothered ribs, mac and cheese, rice and green beans and it was ALL sooooo good. I will make a trip back out this way just to stop by this place. Thanks Dorothy for the great food and hospitality.
We learned about this place in our Road Food Book. Once again it did not disappoint. It is a very small place and don't let the outside looks of it scare you away. The staff was very friendly, helpful and prompt. Our food was really good. We will eat here again if we are ever in the area
