New Orleans style food. All was yummy in our takeout order except a side item didn't get included. Large portions.

Wound up here for lunch one day recently. Had the gator tots as an appetizer to share with my luncheon companion. Absolutely spot on!!! Great breading cooked to crunchy perfection with succulent meaty bits. For the piece de resistance, the jambalaya is straight off of a street in the Quarter in the Big Easy. Just the right spice: no slap in the face but the kind that makes your scalp sweat a minute or two after you've swallowed. We had the place to ourselves at 1230 or 1 in the afternoon. (Liquor selection is limited: beer & wine only as I recall.) Very reasonable, too!

Cafe Rue Orleans is a breath of fresh air bringing authentic New Orleans flavors and dishes to the mid west. Finding authentic anything in the mid west can be tricky, and the food my wife and I ate here was even better than what we had when we visited New Orleans. I have been experimenting with creating my own unique Creole dishes by reading authentic cooking pages on the internet and then adapting the recipes or guidelines to my own taste. The food I had at this restaurant looked, smelled, and tasted very similar to some of the things I have made over the years. Which was a very pleasant surprise. There is nothing more disappointing to me than leaving a restaurant knowing I could have cooked something better myself at home, and this did not disappoint!

My only gripe was with the facility, while I did like the vibe of being attached to an old hotel, making it feel a tad bit more authentic. There was a nasty corner of the floor where I was sitting with an old build up of greasy mop water with flies buzzing around it. Also, the men's restroom door did not latch, and had a flimsy lock to keep the door shut.

I will definitely be coming back to eat here soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and it was as good as any I'd had in New Orleans. The food was well prepared and service was good. The only thing missing was a soundtrack that might include Dr John , Jon Cleary and few other New Orleans staples.

Other comments mention the parking. That, too, is reminiscent of the New Orleans experience-there ain't no place to park in NOLA either. But, do not let that deter you-it is well worth the funky parking lot and maybe having to wait a little bit!
