Augie's Montreal Smoke Meat

Not only is the food outstanding, the staff are super nice and caring! There wasn't a wait when we went, just for the food to come out! The staff definitely seemed to care. We (accidentally) got a Canadian discount, so if you're from there, you'll get one!

Generally the place has good parking (sort of an alley). There is plenty of inside and outside seating too.

Spent 40 years in Montreal ... born and raised. I've been to every smoked meat joint on Augie's wall... in Montreal. Augie I must say ... you make a great smoked meat. I will definitely be there again next year when the lightning are playing the Sharks and get my fill of smoked meat.

First time experiencing Canadian food so had no expectations whatsoever. Ordered a salmon bagel but they were out of bagels so got it on rye bread instead. Sandwich was very nice and the accompanying salad and pickle were awesome. The poutine was nice but I think the fies were a little overcooked otherwise the combination of cheese curd and gravy was awesome. Will have to try this at home.

Alright Internet here it is, the truth about Augie's: it is my new favorite restaurant in the east bay. The three times I've gone in the past three weeks and I haven't even explored the menu besides the combo because it is that good! I'm not sure how the fries in the poutine remain so crispy despite being drenched in gravy. And oh my God the gravy. Heaven on earth.

The smoked meat melts in your mouth and is some of the best I've had in quite some time.

Hockey is the main stay on the TV but other sports are on as well. The selection of beer seems alright but I haven't sat down for one (yet).

Cons: they only have a framed picture of Justin Trudeau. They should think about getting the real thing.

Highly recommend the poutine!

Come and get the food and eat the food. Straightforward, delicious, clean, friendly, reasonable. (I wish they had Molson Golden, but no one outside Toronto does, I can't blame them for that.) If you're vegetarian or vegan, maybe this is not your spot. Otherwise, come and get it.
