The Fat Lady

I love the Fat Lady, but she seems to have sung.

I used to work in the area and used to visit quite often for drinks and apps and special occasions with clients and colleagues. Was always delighted by the quirky and enjoyable Fat Lady. Always been on the pricey side, but I always felt it was worth it.

Sadly, that has changed. Last week, I decided to treat my roommate/friend to her birthday dinner here. I made reservations and while doing so, a very nice woman helped me and made a note that we were celebrating a birthday and she even asked if she could put the birthday girls name on a note (I assumed this meant some kind of
special signage - ?). I was so excited to make it as special as possible because she’s across the nation from her hometown and family and it was just the two of us celebrating.

We had a lovely time - gabbing with your girlfriends over food usually is. The risotto with scallops I usually drool over was very odd and had a weird sauce and consistency that was not normal and definitely not worth the cost. The bill came and went - we even ordered dessert - and we went on our way. Sadly, no mention of her birthday ever happened that evening and when I called to share this with the restaurant, I just received an apology, confirmation that there was, indeed, a note with our reservation regarding her birthday, and reassurance that “usually our servers are really good.” That may or may not be the case, and we’re all human, but it’s a huge and unfortunate missed opportunity to make my friend feel really special. Super bummed about it.

Always an experience - took my co-worker here as he was going to be moving from the area and had never been here! Was disappointed that they still had holiday decorations up, as I was hoping he could see the amazing day-to-day ambiance. Friendly service and food was good!

Great little place, but little, so if you're looking for bar seats be ready to wait for a spot, or potentially squeeze in. Bar is going to have most of what you're looking for in drinks or something comparable. Oysters are decent. Service at the bar was quick for a somewhat busy night.

Been to Fat Lady years ago, their brunch has always been good so we decided to have new years eve dinner there. We were happy with our drinks and appetizers but our dinner took longer than expected. I think they accidentally served our dinner to another couple... my rack of lamb was perfect but unfortunately my wife's salmon was overcooked - we mentioned this to the server and the owners gladly offered complementary dessert. I like The Fat Lady and will go again.

When you walk into this place. The first thing that hits you, it's small. Like lunch reservation on a Friday small. Then you look at the decor, it a dated of course like old steakhouse dates decor. However if you are fortunate enough to get a seat at the bar, or have the reservation than you are the lucky one. Well they have outside seating also. So when I took a seat and ordered an old fashioned and looked over the menu. I was struck by some unusual dishes. Such as the calamari steak... sounds interesting but I was in the mood for a steak. Dry aged strip steak it was about 2 inches thick and cooked to perfection... this restaurant, while not the one I was looking for, actually just popped in for a drink. This restaurant is one the best ones I have ever been to.
