I have tried. Most of the meals Excellent cooking shortribs. the best. Oxtails fall of the bone excellent sides price just right.

This BBQ joint is actually called Genny's BBQ now and my review is for Genny's (current owner):

I visited Genny's on 10/3/2014. It is located in the Havenscourt area of East Oakland. I met a friend there for lunch. We both ordered the way: Brisket, ribs and links. My two sides were tatoe salad and mac/cheese. I had my sauce on the side.

The meats: All were very flavorful and smokey. The brisket was moist and tender. The ribs were juicy and the links were moist and seasoned just right.

The mac/cheese: Better than my Mama's! I am lactose intolerant and I am more than willing to suffer for this mac/cheese. She used blue cheese and other REAL cheese for this dish. In addition, it was not surrounded by oil that typically comes with mac/cheese dishes. It was also not overly salted.

Tatoe Salad: Typical but edible (I like egg and pickles/relish in mine).

Sauce: Only comes in mild but you can request that they make it spicy. I love their sauce! It is thick, dark, creamy and different.

Customer service: Genny makes a point to come from behind the counter to ask her customers about their food experience. She is very knowledgeable about mixing spices and enjoys mixing various Indian spices with her food experiences. She is also highly picky about the type of wood that she uses to smoke her meats. Her smoker is well maintained and enormous.

Ambiance: Limited seating & no flat screen - Expect to take out

Outside: My friend observed a young woman turn 3 tricks in 3 cars and when she was done, she asked my friend to pull over for service. He respectfully declined. (He should have offered a Genny meal instead - she was kinda thin).

I was just as impressed with her low prices. I have been to many BBQ joints all over the Bay and nation and Genny's is absolutely the best that I have ever experienced. I wish that she could expand to San Francisco and into corporate catering where other other foodies outside the hood can experience her spice chemistry. I am just as amazed with her personality as I am with her food!
