Spices 3 (or just “Spices”, as we call it), is possibly my favorite restaurant on the planet. The flavor and care put into each dish is phenomenal. The staff is amazing. Menu highlights for me include the Numbing Vegetarian Hot Pot, Twice Cooked Pork, Tofu with Explosive Chili Pepper, and Tofu Pockets with Sesame Sauce. Don’t hesitate! Get some Spices in your life today!

Don't be scared off by the sketchy neighborhood - it's nice inside! It's quickly become a lunchtime favorite. Get the fried fish with explosive chili peppers - such a unique flavor sensation! The fish is very tender, surrounded by a spicy coating that tingles on your tongue. The string beans are great, and the smoked bacon with dried beancurd is absolutely out of this world! Try this place - you won't be sorry! Cash only, but you can eat very well for very little.

Nine of us were looking for a place that was open to have dinner on Christmas and we lucked out. Spices! III was really good. I wouldn’t call it fancy but there’s a tall was that’s painted nicely with images and Chinese characters. We had 2 soups and 8 dishes. I especially liked the basil chicken and the tofu dish and garlic eggplant - but the Mongolian beef and sweet and sour pork were great also. Will definitely go back. Plus it’s a block and a half from 12th Street BART.

Things are getting too spicy for the pepper!

Spices 3 has a great variety of meals and they are reasonably priced and perfect for sharing! I tried the chicken wings with explosive chili sauce and the diced string beans. The chicken wings were spicy, but definitely not an unbearable spicy level. There was so much of the "explosive chili sauce" which is just dried peppers, which made it a bit difficult to eat along with the chicken. Also the wings are pretty small, like half the size of a typical wing. The string beans were very tasty, and I've never seen them chopped so small!

The inside of the restaurant is super cozy and I LOVE all the artwork! Very unique. They are cash only, but our server accepted Venmo which is nice because I didn't have cash. Also the service wasn't that great, we pretty much had to get the servers attention for everything.

Overall the food was great and I loved the inside of the restaurant! I wish they had a little better service and they really need to get a card reader...

Everything I have had here is absolutely amazing! The food is reasonably priced and the portions are massive!

I am in Oakland weekly for work and I always make it a point to come here.

The only downside is it is cash only, but it's worth going to the ATM!
