I’ve been wanting to come to Wahpepah’s Kitchen for months; it did not disappoint! Everything was so flavorful and well cooked. The staff was very warm and helpful and the location was very accessible from BART and relaxing. I splurged and got the prickly pear limeade, deer sticks, wild native mushroom pumpkin seed mole, and chilled berry pudding. Will definitely be back! Would love to see a spot open in the city 🙏🏼
This restaurant is unbelievably good! Chef Wahpepah gives Indigenous Native American cuisine the love it deserves. I went with four members of my family so I was able to sample a wide variety of the menu. I ordered the blue corn bison tacos and they were outstanding! The bison was melt in my mouth tender and perfectly spiced. The blue corn soft taco shells were thick and yet soft and smooth. Better than any soft taco shell I have ever had. One wonders why all soft tacos aren’t made with blue corn! I ordered the Elderberry sparkle with my meal and it was lovely, but after having a sip of the Huckleberry lemonade I immediately ordered another for myself. We ordered a side of fried potatoes for the table and they were perfectly fried. A thin lightly crunchy outside with soft inner potatoes. It speaks to the talent of the chef that such a simple side dish was also treated with careful attention. We will definitely return again!
This was such an amazing experience for the palette! My partner and I visited this afternoon for our anniversary lunch since we had been craving some indigenous foods and heard amazing reviews of Wahpepah's. We were not disappointed!
The staff was friendly and the service was fast too! We were so excited for the food I almost forgot to take some photos lol
Here we have the Bison Blue Corn Taco, their delicious Cornbread, and the Bison Meatball. We forgot to take photos of the Buffalo Sticks, the Berry Pudding Cornbread, and Mayan Chocolate Cookie! But believe me, they were so delicious, delicate and just the right amount of flavorful.
We will definitely be coming back!
There's beauty in simplicity. I love the esthetic choice of displaying jars of seeds on the shelves. Just like books, these seeds tell stories.
I had not eaten deer in years. I was excited to try their deer sticks and they didn't disappoint. The dipping sauce was a nice touch.
I appreciated the time they took to mark gluten free items. I had no issues of cross-contamination eating here but I'm also not as sensitive as others.
I was thrilled to be able to eat a waffle in a restaurant. My husband said the blue corn bread was incredible!!
The hominy was a lovely savory moment to balance out the sweet. It was different than the way I prepare hominy. I'll have to experiment in the future.
I don't understand why more places don't offer refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. I could swim in the blackberry hibiscus tea. We also ordered the strawberry sumac limeade. Both were pleasing to the palate, perfect for warmer weather.
We ended lunch with the Mayan amaranth chocolate cake. If you are obsessed with chocolate, don't skip. It was one of the best desserts I have ever eaten. Super rich and I couldn't believe it was gluten free.
Can't wait to return. It was worth the 60 mile drive.
The staff is super friendly. The environment is very relaxing. I ordered the three sisters salad, the wild rice horchata for a drink, and the wild rice amaranth awaamnaatei bar to take home as dessert. The salad was fresh, colorful, and super healthy. The drink was delicious. The bars were too sweet for my taste but I learn to eat the second one (there is three bars in the box) with a cup of hot tea and it was just right.
I will definitely go back to try the other items on the menu and I highly recommend it.
