You’d be forgiven for thinking you just walked into your average choke & puke diner in a sleepy little town. Well, it is a sleepy little town. This ideallic corner property in the inviting hamlet of Martinez, CA is doing it with love.
I wish I could tell you about more of the menu but I was just passing through on a train-to-bus transfer on my way to the Humboldt Nation. I needed to grab a quick breakfast and this place is right across from the depot.
So, I order their breakfast burrito with ham, eggs, hash browns and cheese in a flour tortilla. The owner’s wife cooks it to order, low and slow and it is served up hot and fetching.
*Editor’s Note- I remember being disappointed at first to find it not paired with a homemade salsa. I even verbalized this to the owner, I lived in Texas for 5 years where I learned to take my breakfast burritos very seriously, however even sans salsa, this was in the top 3 I’ve ever had.
Firstly, it’s wrapped and a perfectly warm and supple flour tortilla with no hard chewy parts. The potatoes are perfectly cooked, while the ham, egg and cheese just making straight up love!
How much did all of this specialness set me back? $6.00. Just when I was beginning to think it wasn’t still possible to enjoy that degree of mouth bliss at a fair price point.
Hot Dog Depot is great! They're super friendly and the food is made to order, while still being very quick. Solid variety, though I only ever get the bacon cheese dog.
Love this place! I have been going here since I was a wee lass! Best hot dogs around and wonderful owners!!
Good diner-style menu. Good ice cream/shakes. Historical building. Very nice service.
I love this little business. It's a true Mom and Pop shop, set up in the historic USO building. They have been serving delicious hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches and homemade treats from here for many years. Right across from the old train station, the railroad passes right by their window- a real thrill for most kids! You can get your lunch to go, cross the tracks to the Waterfront Park and have a grand picnic!
