We went there for empanadas and beignets. The carne meat empanada was beyond delicious and full of flavor. The beignets were not what I would call them. However, they were OMG delicious too!
Awesome place. A little cafe and market with indoor and outdoor seating. I had a variety of empanadas and each one was very savory and hit the spot. Excited to go back and try the West African part of the menu. This shop started in Oakland and expanded to Point Richmond - glad they are here.
Enjoyed Damel for the second time today. Great food, and had fun looking through the Brazilian, Argentine , an African products in the store.
I recently tried the chicken empanada. It was good. I would recommend it. It came with a green dipping sauce which was also good, vinegar based and sour which was good with the empanada. The man at the front, Omar was very nice and helpful. However, he initially told me they had Brazilian Greens, my favorite, then informed me, no only at their other location. I was so bummed! I am glad he directed me to their amazing Brazilian Market in the back. I look forward to shopping there.
I was very excited about this place when I got the do I legume sandwich a couple weeks ago. It was loaded with flavorful veggies, pieces of a nice legume patty. I was looking forward to trying it again!
Well, today is my second time eating here now and I got the same thing. The legume sandwich had hardly any vegetables in it at all and no legume! It was breast and underwhelming and still $8.
Upon notifying the staff, we were told “there’s no beans. We never put beans”. He then retrieved the menu to show the item with its listing of vegetables but no beans. I then informed him of the meaning of legume.
It would be one thing if it were only“okay I guess they are cutting corners on how much veggies they give you” (which is by itself a letdown), but to also have no legumes in the legume sandwich and say they don’t put them in there. That’s pretty insulting.
I hope the original chef straightens this out soon. I was so stoked to support a new local business producing good things and I am surprised to see corner cutting like this so soon.
