One of the best vegetarian burritos ever!

Love their burritos! My dad got double protein and it was basically an all-meat burrito ( and it was amazing!) I got a burrito with carnitas inside and it was soooo good! The different waters they have on the side are awesome!

Amorcito is chef Thomas Ortega's fast-casual spot in "The Hangar" area of the Long Beach Exchange (LBX) shopping mall. Their chalkboard sign describes this busy outpost as "a modern chef driven taqueria featuring hand-crafted foods, fresh ground corn tortillas, organic product, and high quality proteins brought to you by the crew behind Amor Y Tacos, Playa Amor, and Ortega!"

I found myself enjoying their "Taquitos de Papa," which are corn tortilla wrappers, curiously crackly and thin (think "egg roll"), filled with a pasty purée of potatoes, spinach, and mushrooms. These golden rolled tacos are then smothered in a variety of sauces and marinated vegetables which combine to be nearly indistinguishable but give it a boost of equal parts of heat, tartness, and creaminess. This was, by far, the best thing I ordered here.

I had high hopes for the "Short Rib Taco," which generated a mixed bag of reactions from me, and hence fell short of expectations. It was a large chunk of braised short rib on a corn tortilla with onions that exploded with piquancy, garnished with gloppy sauces, and topped with a carrot "chip" that tastes as if it has been marinated in a Thai-like mixture of lime and nam pla. The beef seemed as if it were boiled in water alone and the taco was dependent on all the other razzmatazz for flavoring; I needed such a large block of meat to have more going on within it. The onions and carrot saved this taco from being certifiably bad.

The "Tepito Taco" was supposedly inspired by one of Ortega's trips to Barrio Bravo in Mexico City, according to the menu. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they're stuffing tacos with French fries in D.F., but I'm sure the result is better than what I had here at Amorcito. Like the other food I've eaten here, this seems to be a taco for someone with A.D.D., as there's too much going on in this thing. And while pairing a dry heap of carnitas with braised pork skin, fried pork skin, two different types of salsa, vegetable toppings, and fries, I felt it had no identity and was just a bunch of grub in a tortilla. Even though the offerings at restaurants like Taco Maria and Guerilla Tacos have just as many ingredients, each taco served at those two places have a true purpose, and the meats take center stage and stand out in a way that does not happen at Amorcito.

Amazing tacos, the beef is so tender it melts in your mouth, and the fried salad bowl is light and crunchy. You won't go wrong with this place

"Watermelon water: is bomb! "Short Ribs" tacos are amazing, make sure you eat them with corn tortilla. If you can also ask for the "Al Pastor Fries" so worth it.
