A venerated and historic restaurant, it's definitely worth a trip if for nothing else but nostalgia. But there are several old world style Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles that do it better. Ive reviewed a few on here. So if you're visiting LA, stop by so you can say that you did and get some pretty decent Mexican food (their rice is pretty dang good)...but its nothing to write home about.

Stylish interior and servers wearing traditional dresses. It's definitely the most Mexican-looking Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. :) During our visit there was a live mariachi band, if that's your thing. The food is good and reasonably priced considering the location and the uniqueness of the place. The house margarita is very good! Only giving 4 starts because the place was very noisy and rather hectic for my taste, but to someone else this might actually add to the appeal.

El Coyote is a fantastic experience, definitely need to book ahead as it gets very busy. I've been here 3 times in 4 weeks in LA ????. Food is fantastic, not too expensive and very generous serving size. Burrito and enchilada Howard are my favourite. Highly recommended trying some Margarita's as well ????

Haven't been there for close to 10 years. Margaritas were around $5 back then. The people who work there are still great. Usually smiling and happy. Some have been there longer than 10-15 years. The food is still the same. The flavor hasn't changed at all. Good TexMex cuisine. It was nice to be there last night with good friends.

If you're looking for an authentic Mexican experience then look no further than El Coyote. You'll find the waitresses dressed in traditional Mexican garb treating you with that warm hospitality that Mexico is famous for. If you're going to get one thing on the menu make sure it's the crispy hard shell tacos. They're quite flavorful and filling.
