Northern Cafe

This is where I go when I'm in Mid City and craving soup dumplings. Similar in quality and price to Din Tai Fung. However the place loses a star for lack of set meal options and uninteresting side dishes. They also have more standard Chinese fare.

I grew up in the SGV and I'm so excited to have a taste of home that doesn't cost an arm and a leg or have ridiculously small portions. The price and portions were good and so was the food. I'll definitely be coming back.

Very tasty food for a reasonable price. Parking was a problem since their parking lot is small and full even with only 2 customers(?). The green onion fried bread was very good but s little too salty. The veggie dumplings were average but the sauce that came with it was the best. It was bursting with flavor without being overwhelming in any one area. The chives and egg were excellent.

I love the food and ambience here. It's a pleasant change from the other places on Figueroa. If you're a fan of spicy food, the crispy chicken and cumin lamb are a must.
The potstickers, dumplings and pancakes are also pretty great. Oh, and while you're there, also get the shredded potatoes.

Our boss took us here for our Christmas luncheon. Everything we ordered was super delicious. You need to try bacon fried rice, sweet & sour pork ribs, salted lime peanuts, pork dumplings, garlic chicken wings yummy, shrimp won ton, beef wrap, and the pineapple mango lemonade. Must try. It gets busy. Come early. If you see all booths and tables filled there is an extra section towards the rear in a hidden corner where another 16 people can fit. I like how they have plates, napkins, utensils at your reach as well as too go boxes and bags. You dont have to ask for a thing its readily available. I will definitely go again. I loved it.
