I have always loved Carney's... From my first visit to the train on Sunset Strip (I had my first meal with the man I would eventually marry there) to the second location in Studio City, where we regularly brought our children. I took my family there today (including my grandchildren!) and it was as good as it has always been. They've expanded their menu to include salads and healthy dishes. The one thing to note... It's not particularly easy on the pocketbook! The prices of their food have really gone up. But, it's still a fun place for kids and families... And even people out of their first date!

Friendly staff. Food wasn't too bad. Yummy ice! Too pricey, four of us for burgers, fries and a drink and the bill was over $50! That's more than $10 a person. That's a bit much for fast food.

Clear the tracks. The dining car is open.
Just in case you've hungered for a hot dog or burger just hop on board this mid-20th century dining car and experience one of the best dogs or burgers you have had in a very long time.

The menu includes hot dogs, vegan, turkey, and conventional burgers, salads, chill, and french fries. A gluten-free hamburger bun is available. (If you're a celiac patient, ask them to clean the grill.) The serving of French fries is generous. No onion rings or other fried vegetables are available. Peppercinis and jalapeno pepper slices are offered from self service jars on the serving counter. The staff is super efficient but not talkative. Prices are moderate and the proportions are large.

Since this is a real train car and caboose, there is a long climb to enter. A fairly steep ramp, also provided, is wheelchair accessible. Seating is available both inside the car and on the small patio. However, you must order inside the car.

Because this place is popular, and the order taking is one customer at a time, expect a delay.

Parking is wheelchair accessible and free. All aboard!

It is a pretty legit down and dirty burger joint. Nothing fancy, except that it's housed in a train facade. The burgers are juicy and the chili is thick enough to pass the fork test. Had a cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. The personnel are friendly, loved the service! I'd come back if it was near but since it's not Tommy's will do.

How have I driving past this place a thousand times? Carney's is now added to my list of favorites. The food is simple and easily prepared but, it is tasty and hits the spot. It offers a change of pace from the usual hustle and bustle of L.A. It's like stepping back in time to simpler things. Stop, grab a dog or burger, and try the chili cheese fries. Yum yum good!
