Best soul food anywhere. You might have to wait but totally worth it. One of my favorite places to eat!
This place is on point. Food is very good and it's nice to see healthy versions of traditional soul food dishes. They do not drown their food in salt yet everything is flavorful. Standouts for me include the bbq chicken, the pork chop, the sweet potato crumble side and the gumbo. They use a vegan andouille sausage in their gumbo that I can't believe is actually vegan. So good! The homemade desserts are delicious and there is a nice assortment. Also, if they put out out a freshly baked cake of any flavor, they put the slices from the previous cake on sale for $3! So you know that their baked goods are truly fresh. The place is on the small side and the tables are often full but this is to be expected given their popularity. Also buy a lottery ticket if you are able to park in their lot because you are clearly lucky. In fact, go in the afternoon on a weekend when the traffic is a little lighter. I highly recommend!
Great food & such friendly, caring staff - love this place! Question is, why haven't you gone? [Fried] chicken club & sweet potato crumble is just some of the deliciousness...
Really nice food and friendly staff. Can recommend Oxtail Tacos & the Mac n Cheese. They bought out bread to start that was lush as well.
Note, if you happen to be British, you might not want to admit to them that it's you first time in there ????
I really like this place actually! The staff are very friendly. The ambiance is cool too. And the thing that matters - the food? It's actually very good. I got the fried chicken and it's really tasty. It's boneless and the breading is very well done. I also got the greens and the sweet potato cobbler as the sides. Both were very good too, but if you don't like coconut, you won't like the cobbler. I do so I loved it. My friend hates coconut and she bailed out fast.
I also got the Halloween cake which was huge and tasty. The frosting got a little intense though (very sweet) but that's how some people love their frosting.
I'm docking it one star only cuz the cost is a tad bit high, and some of the dishes take a little long to come out. But for the dish time... that means they're making your order fresh so that's a good thing too!
It's a great place to try out if you're feeling like some soul food.
