After the difficult entry and parking just to get in you are greeted with a blast from the past, I felt like I had walked right into the 1950's the man running everything was extremely busy yet managed to fulfill all my requests before I even had an opportunity to ask. The food was outstanding and don't dare go without bringing extra cash for a slice of pie.
This little burger joint was really interesting! They accept payment in CASH ONLY because they have old-fashioned/antique cash registers. The space is small and bustling with activity; you have to be willing to jump on a stool when you see one open. The fries are amazing, but my burger was undercooked. Very pink in the middle. Not my favorite meal ever but a fun adventure for tourists like me!
A tiny place with great food. It's a classic and almost feels like you're stepping back in time. The food is great, but the drink selection could be a little better. It's a counter only diner, so you have to wait till seats open up to get a spot. Not bad if it's not busy, but if it's packed, which it usually is for dinner, seating almost becomes a free for all and it's left to the customers to figure out. A+ burgers though, top notch!
A top site for delicious Burgers. Cool place to meet and catch up with coworkers. Certainly worth going back to. This place has an awesome atmosphere. Menu is similar to a restaurant in El Paso I liked.
A true must have when in LA. My parents went here while they attended UCLA in the 60's. They introduced it to me as a kid and I keep coming back. The place has not changed. Same stools surrounding the "U" shaped counter, with two antique registers at each corner. That said, it is not a place for large groups, as it is challenging to get more than a couple of stools together. Expect to wait behind a section of stools until someone finishes their meal. Grab a menu while you wait, so you know what you want when it"s your turn. Don't be afraid to assert yourself and jump on a stool when one opens up.
The food is worth the wait. The burgers and fries are amazing. The smokiness of their sauce on the burger and the crisp hot fries.... perfection! I have tried other food items, including the apple pie; which are OK. I keep coming back for the burgers and fries.
Every time I come in, I see the same guys working the grill and counter (for over 3 decades now). They are very efficient and push the orders out fast. They are very focused, all business, and earn their tips.
