I finally decided to try Crazy Fish today. It seemed to be popular and I had heard and read great things about the place. So, after making a Starbucks run, I thought, "Why not pick up lunch here today?" I went in and noticed that the place was very clean and bright - inviting. That was definitely a plus. I already felt like this was the beginning of something good.
I was greeted by a friendly young woman. She told me the specials of the day, but I wanted to try a mainstay direct from their menu. So, I ordered a grilled fish taco plate AND the Fish and Chips.
I was a little taken aback by the price, but, I thought, if the food is that good, then the expensive should be worth it.
I ordered to go and it did not take very long to prepare my order. I brought my food back to work to dig in. First - the portions - large! Granted I was hungry, but I ate more than I should've! Hmmm. The jury's out on whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
The Fish and Chips was fantastic - whatever breading they use is absolutely delicious and the fish itself was cooked perfectly. Not overcooked, not dry, not greasy - it was flaky and just divine! Well seasoned and everything! The chips, too, were great - now I don't know if they fry the chips with the breading or my chips just soaked up some of the flavor from the fish, but the chips were amazing! My only suggestion would be to maybe cut back on the chips portion a little bit. The portion of fish was just right.
My tacos tasted great (yes, I ate them, too! Hungry dude was hungry!), but, I found that the fish tasted a little unseasoned, or just lacked seasoning. It probably needed a pinch more salt. They give you salt packs to use at your discretion, but I prefer adding sea salt instead of the iodized stuff. As I stated earlier, the tacos tasted fine, but would have really popped if the fish had a little more seasoning.
My only disappointment was no tartar sauce for the fish. I didn't notice if there was a bar with condiments at it, so, if that is the case, the counter workers should make that apparent to a customer when they pick up their order, or just include a cup or two of tartar sauce with the order. I'm not a fan of ketchup on chips, so I didn't really care about that.
I'm stuffed and won't need dinner this evening. I am looking forward to patronizing this establishment again and hope that it remains a success here in Pedro!
I strongly recommend the food and the wonderful and friendly staff. We are a big believer in supporting our local businessess and hope to continue to be a loyal patron of Crazy Fish.
However, I have a couple of suggestions for the management based on my experience over the past few months:
1. I recommend improving the quality/quantity control in your food delivery process. I usually order at least once or twice a week for pickup. Tonight was the third time that my order was partially missing food items. For example, tonight, the shrimp taco plate, had three very very small shrimps on each taco compared to four normal size shrimps that I usually get with my order and our fries was literally less than1/4 of the normal size of what we usually get with the Swordfish sandwich.
If the management plans to cut back on the quantity of certain food items such as shrimp or french fries, I recommend letting your customers know or doing it incrementally so that it is not such a shock to your regular customers who may assume there was a mistake or they were shortchanged. As I mentioned, I am a big believer in supporting our local businesses who provide great food and great service such as Crazy Fish. But there needs to be some consistency in both quality and also the quantity of the food being served.
Great food. They have a great, and affordable Salmon Bowl that's only $9.95 and very very good.
My other favorite is the Swordfish cooked in seasoned olive oil. not only is it fantastic it's also very healthy. Love this place and definitely recommend it.
Excellent food. All healthy Seafood dishes and large portions.
I plan on going back quite often.
Staff is friendly and attentive.
I am very picky about my fish and this place has Really good, fresh fish and shrimp at a good price. People were friendly even though we came in right before closing. The market also has really fresh seafood and again, reasonably priced. my friends and I will be back often!!
