Interesting and ambitious menu that falls just short of delicious. At least the small gem salad that was a garlic bomb, the naked fried potato chunks at the base of the egg bowl, and the compressed biscuit. The avocado toast was terrific. Service is bound to improve.
The space sang with its soul - like an endless discovery, you found bar, garden, high tables before the kitchen, main dining area and cafe - all amazingly designed. The food deserved praise as well. Seemed to just start offering brunch. We loved the cornmeal pancakes - a bit sweet but fluffy and very appetizing. Moreover, the fried chicken, served with hot sauce, was absolutely first-class - tender, juicy, and seasoned just right. All items on the menu looked attractive. Thank you chef =)
Fantastic comfort soul food here, everything is good here from the soft buttery cornbread, deviled eggs, and the greens appetizers to the fried chicken, smothered hangar steak, and the oxtails and rice are heavenly! The oxtails are huge and soft fall away from the bone tasty. They have excellent sides from the candied yams and walnuts, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots & nuts, etc.. The service is good and the people are warm. Its always crowded which should tell you something. Don't sleep on this one, put it in your "eating out" rotation!
This place was a pleasant treat on my trip to LA. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food timing was good. We enjoyed our meal-all sides. The mood is very relaxed. They have a chef's table counter to enhance your dining experience. The bathrooms are very clean (which is the most important part of any place I visit). People actually smile here- which is rare these days in a dining establishment. I look forward to returning and trying more of the entrees. So far so good. Worth the trip and fair market prices.
