Amazing food, I had their hummus, roasted beets, branzino, okra, and lamb. My favorite out of them was the roasted beets and the branzino! They undercooked the lamb by just a bit, but they had it redone right away. My family enjoyed the branzino so much that we ordered another one ????????.
Believe the hype — the food is incredible, and the servers are great. I can't think of anywhere else in the area that has this great of a price/quality ratio.
This small wood fired kitchen will blow your mind. Every single dish they make its incredible. Served in a very minimalistic and chill way, this Silverlake spot its a must!
Mh Zh is one of the best, understated dining experiences I've ever had in the USA. You won't find it on the top food lists, but that's because they are more chill than the starstruck restaurants of LA. They are a casual Israeli restaurant in Silver Lake. It's a small corner building with bar seating inside, a few seats, and outdoor seating. From the moment you walk up, the kindness of the hosts and servers will rub off on you.
My buddy and I went on a colder Friday evening making the line short to get in (they don't take reservations so expect an hour wait or so most nights, but it's worth it). We sat outside and immediately were greeted by our server.
The menu is seasonal and always comes on a paper bag. It's simple and the server can recommend what dishes to try. Here are the dishes we enjoyed (note: every dish comes on a paper bag too!):
1) Crispy potatoes- The most perfectly crispy potatoes you'll ever have with lemon and thyme on them. They are simple and simply delicious.
2) Sweet potatoes- Sweet and also crispy.
3) Steak- It was cooked perfectly and full of flavor.
4) Hummus- The best I've ever had (even compared to hummus in Israel).
5) Greens- A tad spicy and well cooked.
Truly, anything you get will be life changing. I would go back over and over again and never tire of it. Hands down a 5-star experience!
As another reviewer said, except for a few items on the menu, this is not typical Israeli fare. But the people working here are super nice and Carlos, who served me, saved the day when I discovered he speaks Hebrew (and the fact that he's cute didn't hurt, either). I had the hummus bling, which was outstanding, the potato and lemon (served with thyme on it), and the greens in butter. All were very good. The bread was sliced thin and very fresh. (What, no pita?!). All in all, I loved the tiny, intimate space and the casual, unassuming atmosphere and manner of the servers (which is sorta Israeli, actually). Loved it and will return.
לא ממש ישראלי אבל מה זה נעים וטעים... מומלץ בשל האוכל הטוב והאווירה הנינוחה
