I only give it four stars because I don't necessarily love love their coffee, but they have good pastries and a good breakfast sandwich and good bagels. The prices are pretty standard for LA - two regular coffees plus the breakfast sandwich plus a bagel came out to about $33 plus tip. The bagel that you see in the photo is the loaded bagel without the lox. I didn't feel like lox that day, so I specially ordered it. I love it because the cucumbers are so fresh and crisp.
We ordered a plain croissant, chocolate croissant, hot chocolate, and macchiato café.
The pastries (food) were A1! Moist, delectable, and fresh (1/5)! The location is exceptionally placed in the center of Brentwood which made it incredibly accessible from places like UCLA, Santa Monica etc. (2/5). Also, the atmosphere was fantastic! The aroma of the fresh bread is absolutely mouthwatering (3/5). However, the beverage, and hospitality were not great at all. As it was our first time, I would have appreciated more guidance of the menu from the person helping us (0/5). And, for the beverage... the macchiato was more of an espresso shot. there was no steamed milk in the drink as you one might expect from a Macchiato Café. As for the hot chocolate... it consisted of milk foam, water, and some god awful cocoa powder. It tasted like absolutely nothing (0/5).
I gave this bakery stars for food, atmosphere, and location. Stars were removed because of the lack of hospitality, and the distaste with the beverages we ordered.
Fantastic customer service from the entire staff. Friendly and absolutely went above and beyond even though they were about to close.
Thank you Clark Street team.
Chicken salad sandwich was good. btw
While they're really known for their pastries, their bagels are next level. I'd easily go here for a bagel and cream cheese over any other bagel shop in town. Also you can't go wrong with their pastries either. The cinnamon and cardamom buns are a must try.
I don't think I've ever had a better tasting or well made Danish. We ate the fresh strawberry Danish and it is filled with incredibly good custard. Superb flavor. Flaky perfect crust. Can't wait to try more from this place. Their donuts and especially donut holes are a bit on the heavy side instead of light and airy but the toppings are perfect and the vanilla cross bun was delightful.
