My whole family enjoys eating hotpot because it's a relatively healthy dinner option if you do it right. There are a lot of different hotpot/shabu options in the SGV but I still consistently find myself coming back to Tokyo Shabu Shabu.
Today my mom suggested shabu for dinner since it's been a little chilly and wet in LA recently. Normally there is a wait to be seated and you'll see patrons happily eating even after the standard dinner hours. We were seated after ten minutes on a Wednesday night at 8:30 PM.
The restaurant has bar seating as well as table seating. Typically, I prefer bar seating because you get your own personal pot, but today we sat at a table and split one large hotpot. On one side we had tonkotsu and on the other we had sha cha. For our meats, we ordered the Colorado lamb and the wagyu chuckeye. We both enjoyed our meal and once you start cooking, the broths really do become more flavorful.
I'd recommend anyone to give Tokyo Shabu Shabu a try if you're in the Monterey Park/Alhambra Area! Service can be slow at times, but if Eric is your server, you'll be well taken care of!
When we came to the restaurant, no waiter asked us to sit down for almost five minutes. Bad service. We ordered the all you can eat meal, but we didn't get some of the food we ordered until the last. Won't come again.
With the rainy weather recently, nothing is better than Tokyo Shabu Shabu! They have the best selection of meats and soups. I highly recommend their The Angus beef Bacon cut, Wagyu Ribeye and the Angus beef Lean cut. Their spiced beef soup has a flavor that reminds me of pho broth--so good!!! I appreciate that they also give you an generous portion of mixed veggies to go with it. To compliment the meats, they offer different dipping sauces: Goma (seasame), satay BBQ sauce, and ponzu. Their menu also include a variety of yummy appetizers. My favorite are the fried chicken wings. They were perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. This place is the best, rainy day or not!
Good quality beef. Large choice of soup bases. Prices are high: AyCE dinner for 2 --close to $100.
Great restraunt, i've been comming here at least twice a month for over 5 years, the food is great ( the spicy miso is definitely recommended by me ????) almost the whole staff rembers my order, most of the time they have very well behaved staff members, i've had some encounters with staff members being rude before, but everyone has bad days so its understandable. Besides that tokyo shabu-shabu is great restraunt with high quality food and lovley staff members, its one of those restraunts that you'll never get sick of
