Reservations are not usually needed. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The pleasant, volunteer staff members are knowledgeable about John Steinbeck and eager to share! Plan extra time to tour the house with wonderful Steinbeck family memorabilia. Plenty of food choices and pairings with great dessert selections! Photo op from the porch including the sign in the background.
Awesome "page of history" worth the visit, along with Steinbeck Center!

Menu is classic American of Steinbeck's era. Daily Soup, Salad, and Salad options. Good desserts & coffee. Staff is warm & friendly local ladies.
We dined in the "Sisters Room", off the Main Room. The "Sisters" room has 3 tables, and you can look through the glass curio at Steinbeck memories.
7 parking spaces, nearby street parking is limited. GIFT SHOP below via sidewalk around house.
( NOTE: The National Steinbeck Center (Museum) is a few blocks away. Eat at restaurant first, then go visit museum, which also has a gift shop.)
Nice spot to grab some lunch. Food was good. Would have liked to be able to tour the home but the server filled us in on the history of the Steinbeck family and the home, which I found quite interesting.
Not only does one have the privilege of being IN the house where writer, John Steinbeck, was born and in which he grew up, the house is a RESTAURANT! Delicious menu items (my favorite is the tri-tip steak with red potatoes and garden fresh vegetables) and great desserts (my favorite is the Steinbeck brownie which comes with vanilla ice cream). The Steinbeck tea (a mixture of unsweetened tea, pink lemonade and raspberry tea) is refreshing.
We had our Christmas Party there. Great atmosphere. Great service. Everyone enjoyed the food. The volunteers gave us history on the Steinbeck House they all were super helpful.
Will definitely come back!
