HAPPILY SURPRISED! Had the Bealching Beaver peanut butter stout, 3 tacos (beef, chile verde chicken & fish) and to start everything, can't believe I'm saying this but Brussel sprouts with procuitto & garlic(I finished it and I HATE Brussel sprouts!) Great place to eat, you won't be disappointed!!!
Fantastic food, superb service! I was even gifted a Guinness necklace from the kind woman who seated us! Always enjoy the tacos, every kind offered! Chicken burger wonderful! Sweet potato fries just right!!!
Fantastic beer selection, innovate eclectic and delicious food at reasonable prices. The owner Craig and staff are friendly and offer great service too. The ambience has a sense of humor and rustic/modern style. Try the enclosed patio for dining or the dining room or bar. They even rolled out a 5 star valentines day prix fix menu and beer not for Christmas! Thirsty Barrel initiated what has become a renaissance of great food, craft beer and nightlife in Grass Valley.
The only things I care for at this place is the large tap selection, and the ambiance, that's about it. It took about 10 to 15 minutes just to get our drinks. We ended up ordering the brussel sprouts, which on the menu sounded decently good, but when we got them, they seemed like they were overdone beyond recognition. All I tasted was a charred mess of slightly garlic flavored material - I had to wash away the flavor with my beer. Didn't get a chance to try other food items, but the guy next to us seemed to enjoy his tacos. The service was quite friendly, and the place is family friendly. My only complaint about the taps is that the selection, although large, doesn't have what I would consider unique or a beer experience I couldn't get from a different bar in town.
It really feels like this place could use something more. It kind of feels like a controlled chaos. I live a 5 minute walk from this place, but I could easily think of a more preferable establishment to go.
