Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort

I have been going to tahoe dinner since I was 10 years old and I am 31 now. I learned to ski there and now so has my niece and girlfriend. The staff, ski instructors, and lift operators have always been kind and responsible. The lodge is a little old and outdated but I know they have some plans in the works. Why did I choose to write an offer today? In a blizzard I came to pick up my niece from ski school. When I was departing the road and not road all looked the same and same height of snow. My car ended up in a ditch. First I called AAA only to find out highway 80 was shut down the roads were no longer safe for tow vehicles. I was stranded with no one local to come save my niece, girlfriend and I. I told the staff and did they everything they could to help me get home safely and did find a way to get me out. 3 men helped me when they didn’t have to in the worse conditions. And did it kindly, and did with a few laughs and without blame. I so appreciate these guys and I wish I took down their names. Kindness is not found often like this anymore in the world with concern about liability… thank you, you saved the day.

So, this isn't where you go if you are super good on skis and looking to cover a lot of terrain. BUT I am a 20 year rusty mom and am trying to get my 6 and 8 yo comfortable on skis while making some progress myself. And this was THE place for that. The staff was the kindest and most helpful that I have ever encountered, from the instructors to the ladies selling lift tickets to the rental shop that fixed skis I hadn't even rented from them... on and on. Strong recommend if you have anxiety around skiing or are looking for compassionate instructors!

Friendly neighborhood ski resort. Nice and easy. Great for kids. Superb location in the very middle of Truckee.

We tried downhill skiing here the week before Christmas. It was my 8-year-old daughter’s first time skiing, so we got a one hour private lesson at 9am (arrived at 8am to get our rental gear and lift tickets).

The staff were friendly and welcoming — even the parking attendants! The instructor was fabulous and knowledgeable, and had my daughter fully ready for the bunny hill within an hour.

There wasn’t much snow, so only one trail was open — but we had plenty of fun. There weren’t many people, so we had more room to ski (great for beginners!)

Lunch was pretty good, and there was good hot chocolate…

Great place for families and people who are looking for a relaxed, laid back ski resort. There are lots of happy, friendly customers here. Tahoe Donner has a great ski program that won’t hurt your wallet as much as other places. Kid-friendly - Lots of little kids learning how to ski for the first time. Diaper Changing table in the women’s restroom.

Parking is easy and free. There is a constant parking lot shuttle that will drive you to and from the lot to the resort.

Lots of outdoor tables and chairs to sit, relax, and talk to new friends.
