Newport Rib Company

This is our annual trek to SoCal for vacation and Newport Rib Company is one of our typical dining spots. We are happy to report that the food is still great, the portions are good for 2, and the service is friendly. My wife and I generally split the full rack of baby back ribs and with the split plate add-on, we get the full rack for less than 2 half racks including the side dishes. That's a bargain -- something you do not find often.

This place is a Costa Mesa landmark. If you love BBQ you will love Newport rib. The ribs, chicken, hot links, prime rib are all delicious. I guarantee you won't leave hungry. They have a very nice bar area with a lot of TVs and a great selection of beer and cocktails.

Fantastic food but sub par service. Went in for orange county restaurant week and one of the first things the server said was that she dreaded restaurant week. She was gone for long periods at a time and usually forgot to come back with whatever she went for in the first place. It was a frustrating experience as a diner. Our table had to share steak knives because there apparently weren't enough and some of our food came in cardboard cups. And some things that were supposed to be hot were cold and others that were supposed to be cold came warm. Bizarre and awkward.

Go here every valentines day because the ribs are the best around. Newport Rib Company does Ribs in a stellar way. Really good, charred, juicy ribs with a barbecue sauce that perfectly complements them. On top of that, their appetizers are fantastic. The mozzarella sticks are the size of hot dogs and honestly I couldn't eat more than one. The cornbread they give you is amazing as well. Here I am a day later at work, salivating at the thought of the leftovers in my fridge at home. Well actually it's in my girlfriend's fridge, we don't live together yet.
