Yum yum yum! Perfect fit for the costa mesa community! I was craving seafood but had zero desire to gussy up to head down to Newport or south coast for it. Simply fish is casual, fit for a quick date night or taking the family out. Food is in my opinion fresher and made with the seafood as the highlight of the dish instead of sauces masking the flavors. In other words Simply Seafood. The business is own by a independent small family which just adds to my love of the place. We must continue supporting small businesses! We were there Sunday night we started with the brussel sprouts and let me tell you its a game changer. I had the clams and the cl chowder my husband the white fish plate. We were so impressed we came back Tues night for taco Tuesday. We were very happy we did. For $10 we got 2 tacos fries and a soda. I recommend the shrimp, steak and the grilled white fish. I had to try the lobster bisque and it was delish but for my pallet (lighter) I prefered the clam chowder. One of the best chowders ive had in a long time. Service was impeccable Kim made us feel like family.
It's so weird how the filet mignon skewer tasted waaaay better than the tiny Itty bitty lobster tail. See how small it is next to my fork? The filet mignon I'd totally recommend, the 4oz lobster tail, not so much. The fish n chip was normal. The restaurant itself, clean, and fresh looking.
I really enjoyed their shrimp appetizers and entrees. I had the shrimp taquitos, which were crispy, succulent, and delicious. Imagine an egg roll wrapper around perfectly seared shrimp, dressed like a taquito with some cotija cheese, lettuce onion, cilantro, jalapenos, and some chipotle.
The shrimp po'boy had a wonderful sauce, a really great soft but textured bread, and a rockin sauce that complimented but did not overshadow the taste of the shrimp. Although the sauce was great, it was a little sweeter than I would have preferred.
The mango margarita was little different, but I enjoyed it a lot. I couldn't taste the alcohol that much, but I definitely felt it afterwards.
The poke tacos were really cute and tasted great How can you knock small taco-shaped crispy wontons filled with poke?
Great overall experience and can't wait to come back for Taco Tuesday or maybe even Superbowl Sunday (heard they are doing Taco Tuesday pricing all day on Superbowl Sunday).
Absolutely delicious food! Impressive menu options that keep bringing you back, and the fish and chips are the best I’ve ever had. Definitely worth checking them out!
Don’t pay attention to the lower scored reviews… for one thing, they just opened and every restaurant goes through some growing pains of training chefs, etc… but more importantly, it’s not their fault the *brainiac* ordered FROM A DIFFERENTLY NAMED RESTAURANT and got upset Simply Fish wouldn’t immediately comp her meal…own up to your own mistake and drive to the other location (it’s in the same city after all)! Trashing a new business because of your error isn’t a reflection of the business’ food or operations.
That being said, I’d 100% recommend Simply Fish.
Simply Fish...is not just simply fish. The menu is extensive and has an array of offerings for most palettes! Surf & Turf, Shellfish, Meats, Signature Salads, Tacos, Sandwiches, Bowls, Keto. There's also a good selection of beers: Red Trolley Ale, Big Wave Golden Ale, Stella Artois, Estrella Jalisco, Space Dust IPA, Overcast Hazy IPA, Mission Brewing San Diego Blonde. Wine and Margaritas are also served along with a soda bar, tea, lemonade. The employees are all very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is open, welcoming & fun. Music selection is spot on! Great mix of songs. Loud enough to enjoy the songs. Low enough so you can still enjoy table conversations. Now for the yummy stuff! Today is the Grand Opening! I had to start off with Medium Rare Ribeye with Asparagus and white rice. I also had the Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp. Both super delicious! The Ribeye was cooked to my liking. It was well seasoned. The Asparagus was not too soft or too hard and had a good grilled taste to it. The white rice was also cooked perfectly. They were great compliments to my Ribeye. Of course, there are other sides to choose from. Now for the Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp. It had the right amount of creamy Alfredo sauce. Anyone who knows me, knows I am all about the sauce and this Alfedo sauce made me smile and hum with content every time it hit my mouth. Creamy, cheesy, yummy. And the shrimp. Oh, my goodness, the shrimp! 10 plump butterflied shrimp! Grilled and full of flavor. All I can say is that both dishes made my taste buds dance & my tummy happy! I highly recommend coming out to enjoy a meal here. I know once you do, you will keep coming back! The best compliment is a recommendation to all you know. So come on out!
