Rooster & Rice

Rooster & Rice is known for Khao Mun Gai which is Thai chicken rice but for others, it’s best known as Hainan Chicken.

The best Hainan chicken I’ve had was in Hong Kong. It wasn’t until I discovered Rooster & Rice in the Bay Area and can confidently say, they have my only stamp of approval on Hainan chicken that I have discovered and it’s all in the dipping sauce.

We got The Original ($16.40), The Vegetarian ($13.95), popcorn chicken ($13.95) and fried chicken skins ($4.95). The meals come with soup broth.

The vegetarian had carrots, tofu, broccoli, cauliflower and cucumbers. It was a huge portion that I had to split into two meals. Had the same dipping sauce as The Original.

We also ordered the ginger scallion sauce on the side which elevated the flavors.

I recently visited Rooster & Rice and was thoroughly impressed with the food and service. I ordered the popcorn chicken with a side of steamed veggies. The chicken was crispy with the just the right flavor and the steamed veggies were fresh and balanced the meal.
Honesty, chicken is a little pricy, but I do understand commercial real estate and inflation during this time with our economy.
If you're craving chicken with a different flavor and fresh taste, stop in and give them a try.

1st time here, the chicken is amazing. I absolutely loved their popcorn chicken with the house sauce. The habanero sauce is great.
The tofu rice bowl is very filling and delicious 😋.

This restaurant is a staple in the Bay Area and I am so excited they have come to So Cal!

This is primarily a take out place but there are a few seats outside if you are not taking your meal to go. The restaurant is clean as are the tables outside. The decor is fun and inviting! The staff is super friendly and greets you as you walk through the door. They know their menu and are happy to help you order should you need suggestions.

The food is soooo fresh and delicious. The cutlet and popcorn chicken are perfectly coated and crispy! Not dry at all!!! The original is also super tender! The side sauces make the dish extra yummy but totally not necessary as the meat has good flavor on its own. The rice…. Yes the rice… I can eat a whole bowl of that yummy rice!

All in all a hit and I will be back!

We grabbed the original and the cutlet to go, and they were delicious! The chicken was so juicy and tender. The cutlet was crispy and paired amazingly with the sauce and pickled veggies. Will definitely visit again!
