Kokiyo - Newport Beach

I came to this place to try because I saw it had 5 star rating and wanted to see what the hype was about. There was a long-ish line, which is a good sign that the food was going to be bomb! Unfortunately the wait for just two ramen bowls was 35-40 minutes, which is understandable considering how many people were waiting as well. I excitedly parked at a del taco parking lot to eat my creamy chicken ramen, the flavor was… mild… and I didn’t receive any eggs that comes with the ramen! For the price point the flavor could be significantly better, same with the chicken itself, it was very bland.

Both clear and creamy are Decent Ramen broth. I didn't like the noodle that much. My pee get so artificially yellow afterward. Small store with a couple of seatings. Decent pricing. Self service. The kitchen people work very hard.

I went to Japan last year and fell in love with ramen there- the bouncy noodles and rich (but not overwhelmingly so) broth. This place is super authentic to those components. The creamy broth chashu ramen with spicy sauce I got was really good, filling, and gives you the sense of comfort you want from a nice hot bowl of noodles. Only note of caution is that this place gets pretty busy- I waited 20+ mins for one bowl of ramen. The business can stand to improve the self order station’s system for when a customer’s order is ready. Currently, the screen does not let you see your order number (which is what the staff use to call out a ready order). That will be really important as the restaurant continues to get more popular.

Amazing ramen. They use real bone broth they even do it well to go with separate containers so it doesn’t go soggy! It inexpensive for what you get and they are friendly, fast and tasty. Highly recommend !
