Extremely good food and even better wine. Definitely worth at least one visit in a lifetime if you can't afford visits here and there.
I'm not sure what to say about The Hobbit other than what's already been said - it's probably THE outstanding old-school high-end restaurant in Orange County. In answer to the several times I've been asked the question, no, this place is not Tolkien-themed, unless you count the purported hobbit's love of good food in a comfortable, quiet, atmosphere. The Hobbit is fairly expensive - definitely into "special occasion" territory for most people - but is also one of the relatively few places where I can walk away and feel that the entire experience absolutely justified the price. And, indeed, you go to The Hobbit for the entire *experience* of a fine meal, with all the preamble, steps, and stages of that cultural ritual. The food is outstanding but, if you only look at that, you're missing the forest for the trees.
Dining staff was first rate. The whole dining experience was worth it. Everything was elegant. Huge attention to detail. The food was very tasty. Portion sizes were a little small but lots of courses and variety. 4 hours to complete the entire dining experience. Great for special occasions or just for a nice, quiet dinner.
My husband and I love the food was delicious and the atmosphere too, they say in the web site about the dress code, have pictures to prove that a lease two men were in Jean and work boots they were there ????? :(. don't expect eat and leave , the make small meals in 4 to 6 hours time the only I don't like it. Is that the staf pushed you too much to drink alcohol , I when just for try the food and was delicious the dessert need serious attention I particularly love and make French dessert at home this was awful the sorbet awful too, maybe because is the last course they think everyone is drunk and will no notice it ... I did.
Great food, great wine selection, fun inviting place. Great for a date or a group. Highly recommend
