Great beers. Wonderful staff. Family affair. The Packers thing is a minus, but only a minor one. Just a quintessential local spot.
Best sandwiches and beer selection in town. Try the Bernie, you'll thank me later. Pastrami and Blue Cheese on squaw bread. Pair it with any one of their amazing beers on tap and you're in for a treat. If the timing is right you may even get to snag a fresh Pliny.
I really like Hollingshead's Delicatessen a lot. It's a very good sub, made very quickly, with a friendly staff. Somehow they manage to maintain that across most of their franchises nation wide.
This is a unique place to dine. Their food offering is a long list of subs and sandwiches, and you can customize any part of their suggestions with any bread and ingredients they offer. Along with your sub, they have a number of side items including baked beans, coleslaw, deviled eggs, and more. Once you order they will give you a unique coaster which they will call the name of when your order is ready to be picked up.
But the real reason that you come here is for the beer. When you order your meal, indicate that you will also be buying a beer. You can then go over to the bar and order from a frequently rotating selection of a couple dozen taps, or you can go to their long cooler and select any individual beer bottle, which they will open and pour for you at the bar for a nominal fee.
The seating is all casual tables and chairs.
You can also go there just to purchase beer to take home. They often have a small selection of hard to find beers, and for the rarest, you may be limited to as little as one bottle.
This place is the perfect sandwich shop. I'm sad that I have never visited until recently. Lots of locals. Great beers. And a variety of sandwiches to select from that will keep you from ever choosing one favorite. It appears there is a system where you can have a mug with your name on it and kept at the bar. I can't wait to go back.
