Good Fried Chicken! The skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The mashed potatoes were awesome. The kale however, not so good. Will try the green beans next time!
South was good, it didn’t blow my mind but it was good enough to satisfy my hunger. I enjoyed the fact the mash potatoes were fresh made with real potatoes but my Mac and cheese wasn’t too flavorful but overall was good enough for me. I did see buckets of chicken so if you eat meat I suggest try the chicken!
If you are looking for an authentic Southern taste experience, this is the place to go in Sacramento. Petey's fried chicken was on point and perfectly seasoned. Greens were cooked well but not soaked in the traditional brine which I appreciated. Biscuit was cooked well and reminiscent of many biscuits I have had in the Southeast. Ambiance was a little hectic inside but the outside tables were perfect for an intimate dining experience. Will definitely return to try some other dishes!
South serves true amazing southern comfort food. I really appreciate that they have a first come first served motto. Since seating is limited you must get in line and order before you take a table. And they are on top of this, their service, and quality of food. The staff is friendly, and the food is delicious. Hearty portions at fair prices. I have yet to try something that I did not enjoy. If you have not been. You are missing out!
Great food and a cute place. The place has a very relaxed and I pretentious feel. It is light, airy and comfortable. You order your food at the counter and then seat yourself. Service is quick and friendly. The food is fantastic! We had hush puppies to share. They were crispy on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. The homemade buttermilk dressing is out of this world - creamy and flavorful and the perfect dip for the hush puppies. I ordered the fries chicken which again, was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. The grits were super cheesy but maybe just a tad bit under. That said, I still really enjoyed them. The corn bread had a honey butter glaze. It was good enough to be dessert for me.
Do yourself a favor and go have a meal at South. You won’t regret it.
