Black Rail Kitchen + Bar

The portions here are large, and the food is pretty good. It has been a bit salty the two times that I've been there, but I expect saltier than home cooking when I go out.
The menu is inventive while still accessible. Healthy choices abound for most diets with a relatively large menu containing a lot of fresh items.
I am an executive chef, and I would not have portions that large, but it does make it easier to share dishes. Bring a couple friends and you will enjoy it much more.

Front bar was busy, so we were seated in the patio bar. Glad we did, there was a live jazz band that were amazing. Food and service was also excellent.

Great food and drinks, Nick took fantastic care of us at the bar. Only complaint is the owner constantly hovering, wordless, over everything and everyone. Feels like taking a standardized test.

So a little update, after having eaten there at least a half dozen times. Last visit was great, the Warden was not hovering about, which certainly gave the restaurant a more relaxing atmosphere. Service at the bar, as always, was exceptional.

The menu is limited, which I appreciate. Do less, but do it right. That being said, it hasn't changed much and feel like I've eaten my way through it. Still one of my favorites is the octopus starter, albeit the ratio of octopus to lettuce has changed, favoring the livelihood of octopi everywhere. But still delicious. Glad to see the paella was pulled from the menu, since it didn't fly. Was way too runny.

I'll certainly be back, hopefully to some new menu items, enjoy the fantastic beverages and service I've enjoyed to date.

My new favorite place in town! Why would anyone go anywhere else in La Costa. They have hit the nail on the head with this place. Great ambience, amazing food, wine choices were delicious, seating and bar areas are comfortable, elegant, and also amazingly not pretentious. My first of ten thousand visits for sure! Get the pasta with the weird name - yummo!

Phenomenal spread of eats and drinks. Their Puns and Roses cocktail is wonderful and tastes of rose water. The fingerling potatoes are absolutely the best, they're perfectly crispy, savory little bites. The shrimp scampi is delicious! Their lamb meatballs melt in your mouth. And the cauliflower is probably my favorite, it's this gorgeous head of cauliflower packed with flavor. It's a rad lil new spot, the decor is hip AF.
