Very friendly and helpful staff. But BEWARE when ordering the BBQ chicken sandwich. The one I ordered HAD BONES IN IT and an entire party-sized wing hidden in there too, bones and all. Check your food before eating it. But really, the chef/cooks should be more careful
Best bbq I've had in many years! I thank my boy from Texas for finding a true Texan BBQ place. brisket sandwich was good and slaw tasted fresh. I'm normally not a rib person, but these ribs were amazing! I'm definitely going back soon.
Now here is one of the last true "Texas Smoke House" style places in San Diego. Yes there are BBQ places everywhere...but do they actually do a true "low & slow" smoke on the meat. Mostly the answer will be well the sauce was good.. Sorry but that just isn't the right answer! Smoked meats should be good even with no sauce! The sauce just supposed to add to the experience....not cover it up! So here at Abbey's you can smell the smoke even before you enter the restaurant!! Now, that's real Texas style! They have rib tips and brisket that is soooo juicy you just cannot help but lick your fingers....that's what food is all about. My friend has a saying..."Food so good...makes you want to slap yo momma..! You have everything here... turkey, Cajun sausage, beef brisket, ham, chicken, rib tips....you will NOT walk out hungry!! Here are some shots of my rib tips, Cole slaw, bread, and BBQ beans...yum!!
I had a sampler plate. It was a Monday night but much of the food didn't taste that fresh to me. The brisket was good. The ribs weren't great. The corn tasted liked it had been cooked earlier in the day and re heated. Coleslaw didn't have much flavor. Staff were friendly. Frosted beers glasses were a nice touch.
Visited San Diego from out of town. When I travel, I like to look on googles reviews to find good places to eat with high reviews. That is what led me to Abbeys BBQ. I must say I wasn’t disappointed. Our group shared one of the family meals and still had left over food. The employees were terrific and very friendly. It was great food and a great experience. Next time I am in the area, I will definitely stop by.
