First of all, the staff is great, super friendly and very welcoming and polite.
The food is delicious! The birria is really juicy and tender and the menudo is amazing, be warned though, the portions are HUGE so come hungry! Definitely a must visit.
Bomb Mexican food. The birria is tasty, and the borracha is to die for. Also, their California burrito is legit. Will go back, again and again.
WOW!! It’s hard to choose among all the great Mexican spots around SD, but this one stood out from the picture of their Birria tacos on IG. I went and got two orders the next day with my wife and asked the guy how long they’d been open and he told me they opened in February which is RIGHT before the pandemic hit. I asked him if they were able to stay afloat during these times and he said it’s been very difficult. I made sure to tip him on what smelled to surely be a scrumptious meal. When we got home we were pleasantly surprised to see the plating to be just like the photo.
But the taste...
Look, my wife is not hard to please when it comes to food but it takes a lot for her to repeatedly comment on a meal throughout its entirety.
These tacos were A-MA-ZING from beginning to end, even after a 20 min car ride home. The meat was succulent and tender, the cheese was melted between the two corn tortillas, but it was the hot consummé (after 30 sec in the microwave) to dip was the star of the meal: a perfectly seasoned mesh between broth and brine created after a well-thought and -timed braising of the barbacoa.
The meal was an absolute smash hit. I wish I could give them 6 stars and will certainly be back to help support this local restaurant during these f*%&ed up times.
In finality, here’s a REALLY hot take: these tacos were the best Mexican food I’ve had in San Diego.
Hands down.
God bless America.
