Nothing fancy, but hits that Asian comfort food spot on a cold day. Large portions. Combo platters. Wish the price were a bit lower and I'd be a regular.

It's about time we got an all-you-can-eat Shabu place in the Mission, and Shabu House doesn't disappoint! I went here on an off-season weekday night, and was able to get a table within 15 minutes, though I got the sense it's wise to make a reservation ahead of time. The space itself is fairly nice, with tall ceilings and a decent amount of space. The tall ceilings are key in that there's no low and loud fans, the steam goes up high is ventilated from afar. There's a front room with large windows for people walking by to stare at you, and a back room of which I didn't get the opportunity to see too much of.

The Shabu selection is pretty straightforward with three soup options (traditional water, spicy miso, and ginger chicken), three meat options (american kobe beef, lamb, and pork), and a standard selection of veggies to go along. You can get the all you can eat ($35 when I went), or the large and mediums for $10 and $13 lower, respectively. I had the AYCE option with the spicy miso base, and started with Kobe beef. I was surprised with the huge platter of beef they brought out. At a lot of places, they'll bring smaller plates and you get full as you wait to track down waiters to bring you more meat, but not here. I was able to get through one large platter of beef, and decided to push through and get another plate of both beef and pork, mainly just to try the pork. In hindsight, I would've asked for only a small plate, because it was a lot!

Final thoughts? It's certainly a great place to go for hot pot, but the I was somewhat let down by the soup options. The spicy miso was okay, and the traditional water / ginger chicken options didn't seem particularly appetizing. The meat quality was particularly good, but I do wish there were some more options, such as pork belly. Aside from that, the veggies and sauces were what you've had at other places. With that said, I look forward to coming back again in the future!

Pretty legit location. Great all you can eat and all you can drink spot. I would pay $50 just to sit there to drink for 2 hours. The quality of the meat is amazing. Love that it's by Dolores Park.
