Yes, it really is as good as reviews. Four of us shared appetizers and entries, all were excellent. Key lime cheesecake closed an outstanding meal.
Made a same day reservation, was running a bit late so called a bit before, friendly host but she still seemed to give me a bit trouble about possibly being ten minutes behind when she also stated there wasn’t a wait.
Once we arrived there were quite a few open tables both in the front and back section.
The service was good, our server was quite nice, attentive enough minus one instance early on where I was still speaking (about to order a drink) when he walked away.
All staff was attentive, clearing plates quickly and refilling water glasses often.
The food was good, as was to be expected. For two of us we ordered the Brussels sprout chips (an absolute must!) and the burrata w/ butternut squash, also very good although a bit lacking in the butternut squash area. Could have used a bit smaller crostini’s and more than 4.
Had the steak tartare with quail egg and arugula - would not order again. The quail egg was far too cooked, far too much plain, non dressed arugula and the toasted bread slices were well not really toasted bread pieces but almost stale bread-y crackers, did not seem freshly made and the appropriate size.
The actual steak tartare tasted off, the steak seemed fresh but something about the dressing/ seasoning wasn’t right. Initially I thought it had too much mustard, or perhaps capers but my dinner mate voted it tasted a bit pickle-y.
The creamy broccoli soup had good review, although the bowl was quite little looking, the mini side of ‘grilled cheese’ or wild mushroom duxelles & grilled baguette was very good and I would Vite for that to be a full (starter/side) sized item on the menu.
Planning to come back for the oysters and the burger next.
expensive, but the food is excellent... the steak frites is really good, as is pinot the waitress recommended.... we had a really nice evening there... would certainly recommend.
The Marlowe Burger is one of the best burgers in SF.
