I've been coming here ever since i came to the counrry in 1986, and the sandwiches have remained consistent. do yourself a favor and get the biggest sandwich you can afford, they're always workw it!!!...

Excellent, flavorful sandwiches. Meat grilled fresh, toasted bread and what ever you want on top. Fries are thick pieces of sliced potatoes and are often a bit undercooked.

I first rolled into this submarine because I saw a KQED feature of this place and decided to check it out. The subs were pretty good. I had the cheese combo (because it was the only vegetarian one) so it felt pretty normal. But my friend had the Italian one and he said it was only okay too. The fries were very surprising and unique though and obviously very fresh out the kitchen. I enjoyed the family run sub vibe and would go back if I were feeling like sandwiches.

The Yellow Submarine has been on my bucket list since I moved into the city a couple of weeks ago - I love sandwiches and given the great reviews, this place looked like they did them right.

I finally had the chance to go a couple of days ago after waking through the park. When I walked in I was greeted by the two brothers (?) working the kitchen as well as what looked like their mom in the back. I love family-run places so that alone made me excited.

I ordered a large pepper steak with the homemade hot sauce since it was recommended to me by a friend. The prep looked pretty straightforward, but I did notice that the meat looked really fresh and had a nice red colour. When they finally gave me the sub I almost dropped it - it was that heavy! I took it home ASAP. When I opened it I couldn’t believe how freaking massive this thing was! I’m usually good with eating a lot of food but I was legitimately worried I wouldn’t finish.

Straight-up: it was a really, really good sandwich. I ended getting all of the toppings, but when I go back I’ll probably cut some just so I can taste the ingredients better. One thing I’d change is probably the size - a large is waaayy too big for one sitting, and the price reflects that at $12. Ideally there would be a half order for $6-7, but even the medium is pretty hefty.

All in all though, it was satisfying as hell, and it’ll definitely be my go-to if I’m ever craving a sandwich.

Easily the best sandwich spot in the Sunset. I have only went with the hot subs here so I haven't had the opportunity to experience the entire menu. They do a great job of balancing the meat to bread ratio. Their Philly is a personal favorite and I have yet to find another in the city that can match. Good spot that only locals know about.
